Thou Art Lord were among the pioneering bands that helped define the distinctive Hellenic black metal sound, combining raw aggression and chaotic intensity with haunting melodies and dark, atmospheric textures. Formed in the early 1990s, the band brought together some of Greece's most influential extreme metal musicians, including "Necromayhem" (Sakis Tolis of Rotting Christ), "Magus Wampyr Daoloth" of Necromantia and vocalist "Gothmog". Following the release of their The Cult of the Horned One demo in 1993, Thou Art Lord quickly established themselves as a formidable force within the emerging second wave of black metal.

Originally released in 1996, Apollyon is the band's second studio album and builds upon the foundations laid by their acclaimed 1994 debut, Eosforos. While retaining the savage intensity of its predecessor, the album benefits from a more refined production, allowing its dynamic songwriting to shine. Furious black metal passages are balanced by slower, mid-tempo sections, while thrash-inspired riffing, eerie keyboards and classically influenced interludes add depth and atmosphere. Widely regarded as one of the defining releases of the Greek black metal scene, Apollyon remains an essential recording for fans of the genre and a testament to Thou Art Lord's enduring influence on extreme metal.
