In true Stiff Records fashion, founder Jake Riviera and Nick Lowe seized every opportunity to confuse music journalists ahead of the release of Lowe's debut solo album. They had already accepted that the original UK title, Jesus of Cool, would be unsuitable for the American market, where the album was released as Pure Pop for Now People. Rather than seeing this as a compromise, they embraced the confusion and decided to fuel it further by feeding interviewers a series of fictitious album titles.

One newspaper even "exclusively revealed" that Lowe's debut would be called Wireless World, adding another chapter to the band's playful campaign of misinformation. While Jesus of Cool and Pure Pop for Now People went on to establish Lowe as one of the defining figures of power pop, the mythical Wireless World quietly disappeared almost as quickly as it had surfaced.

More than 40 years later, Wireless World finally becomes a reality. Issued on vinyl for the first time, this unique release combines the track listings from both Jesus of Cool and Pure Pop for Now People into a single studio album, celebrating one of rock's most entertaining marketing stories while bringing together the definitive versions of Nick Lowe's acclaimed debut.
