Andy Bey was one of jazz's most distinctive vocalists, renowned for a deeply expressive style that blurred the line between singer and instrumentalist. His rich, resonant voice and masterful phrasing allowed him to reinterpret familiar songs with remarkable originality, bringing a unique emotional depth to every performance.

Recorded in 1995, these intimate sessions marked Bey's first studio recordings since the acclaimed Experience and Judgment (1974). Accompanying himself on piano throughout, he delivers understated yet compelling interpretations of classic standards by some of the Great American Songbook's finest composers. The programme includes four Duke Ellington classics, among them I Let a Song Go Out of My Heart and In a Sentimental Mood, alongside George and Ira Gershwin's Someone to Watch Over Me and Embraceable You, Cole Porter's You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To, Jerome Kern's Yesterdays, and songs by Ann Ronell and Tadd Dameron.

The sparse, intimate arrangements place Bey's extraordinary vocal range—from warm baritone to effortless falsetto—and his elegant, angular piano playing firmly in the spotlight. Issued on vinyl for the first time, this release offers a rare opportunity to experience one of jazz's most individual and captivating artists in an exceptionally personal setting.
